Lawrence Lamar Stephenson Jr.

Graveside services for Lawrence Lamar Stephenson Jr. of Thomasville are at 11 
a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2003 at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Louisiana Street. The 
Rev. Mike Keown will officiate. Mr. Stephenson died Saturday, Jan. 10 at his 
residence. Born Sept. 25, 1947 in Thomas County, he was a son of the late 
Lawrence Lamar Stephenson and Hilda Brady Stephenson. He was a 1965 graduate of 
Central High School, graduated from Thomas Technical School in the licensed 
practical nursing program, attended Georgia Southern University and graduated 
from Darton College where he received an associate degree in nursing. He 
retired as an RN from Southwestern State Hospital after 34 years of service, 
past Master Mason of Masonic Lodge No. 369, member of Hasan Temple and First 
Newark Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Michael Lamar Stephenson of 
Thomasville; a special friend, Alice Hilton; and several cousins. In lieu of 
flowers, memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy/Charcot-MarieTooth  
Association, P.O. Box 13841, Tallahassee, Fla. 32317. The family will receive 
friends fromm 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. -- Whiddon-Shiver

Markie as he was known to me, was a neighbor and friend all of my life. He grew 
up on the Moultrie Road and was previously a member of New Shiloh Baptist 
Church. He was a descendant of Asa Stephenson. His Mother Hilda Brady was from 
Ashburn, Georgia. He was married (& divorced) the former Darlene Hudson of 
Thomasville and Michael was their/his only child. 

Medical History:
Markie suffered many years with a Neuromuscular disorder called, Charcot-
MarieTooth Disease, as did his Mother, and is an inherited disease.
