Dr. Milton C. Gardner and the Rev. Dan Spencer will officiate, with interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers are his grandsons. Mr. DeFreitas died on Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at his residence. Born on October 27, 1927 in Thomasville, he was the son of the late John DeFreitas and Anna Mae Welch Dollar. He was a long time resident of Thomasville and a former salesman for Sunnyland Packing Company. He also worked in construction for Knight & Dodson . He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served in the Korean conflict from Jan. 16, 1953 to Jan. 12 1956, aboard the USS Phillipine Sea aircraft carrier. He was a member of the American Legion, the Thomasville-Thomas County Sports Hall of Fame and First Baptist Church where he was in the Adult and Young Hearts choirs. He attended Thomasville City schools and Gordon Military College. Survivors are his wife Dorothy Parker DeFreitas; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Mena DeFreitas, III; daughter and son-in-law, Helen Elizabeth and John Amos; step-children and spouses, Bill and Kathy Ramey, and Susan and Mike Wilson;grandchildren, Neil O’Steen, Katie O. and Kevin Adams; Travis and Tanna Mosley, Wendy Moseley, John Moseley, Gary Don Hodges and Michael DeFreitas Hodges;and step-grandchildren; Lynne Ramey, Will Ramey, Gretchen Ramey, Bryan Ramey, Heather and Kevin Kilgore, Michael Ramey, Morgan Ramey and Joe Bundrick. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Joey Bundrick, whose wife Rita, survives. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Whiddon- Shiver Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials my be made to Hospice of SWGA, The American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church, Thomasville.
