Interment was in Piedmont Cemetery. He died Friday, May 9. A former pastor and teacher, he is survived by his wife, Ruth Fairbanks Smith Mitchell, Ph.D. Mr. Mitchell received a bachelor of arts degree from Mercer College and a Ph.D. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was a former pastor at Thomasville Road Baptist Church and taught math at Leon High School for 19 years. He had also served as pastor at Pinehurst Baptist Church in Columbus as well as church in Kentucky and Georgia. He was a member of East Hill Baptist Church in Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Area Church of 100 Black Men of America. Other survivors include two daughters, Katherine M. Sheifer Ph.D., a professor at Drexel University, Philadelphia, Susan M. McCrary and husband Mike of Kenner, La.; a son, Daniel F.
