(Bennie) Stephens, Sr. Services for J.D. (Bennie) Stephens, Sr., 88, Cairo, are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Clair P.B. Church in Cairo with Elder Jimmy Simmons officiating. Interment is at Crestview. Active pallbearers are Bro. Charles Hardman, Jim Davenport, Jimmy Lee Williams, Bro. Talmadge Smart, Donald Lowe, Sr. and Bruce Lowe. Mr. Stephens died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Grady General Hospital. Born Jan. 16, 1915 in Grady County, he was the son of Joe and Alice Stephens. Mr. Stephens was a life long resident of Grady County. He married Elizabeth Yates, who preceeded him in death. He attended Grady County Schools, was an electrician and a member of St. Clair P.B. Church. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law J.D. and Lovetta Stephens, Jr. of Cairo, John D. and Patrica Stephens of Columbus, Ira Jam and Valerie Stephens of Atlanta, Edmond and Verdie Stephens of Snellville; and daughter Virginia Stephens-Bailey. -- The Cloud & Son Funeral Home of Cairo.
