Church with Rev. Emory Virgil officiating. Interment is at Peacefulrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Maurice Mitchell of Miami, Fla., Leroy Pettis III and Byron S. Pettis, both of Thomasville. Mrs. Pettis died in her home at 11 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003. Born in Metcalf, Ga., to the late Mattie and John Gaskin, she was married to Leroy Pettis Sr., who died in July 1975. Mrs. Pettis was a lifetime resident of Thomasville and an employee of Sunnyland Poultry Department. Survivors include daughters Betty J. Pettis and Albertha (Pleas) Mitchell; son Leroy (Nancy) Pettis; brother Willie James (Jean) Gaskin; sister-in-law Marcia Pettis; brothers-in-law Tommie E. Gabriel and Bennie Pettis, all of Thomasville, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends tonight, June 26, 2003 from 7 - 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home, 820 Wright Street. The body will lie in state from 1:30 p.m. on Friday until the hour with no viewing after the eulogy. -- Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home.
