Interment will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers are John Keene, Russell Moore, Neal Baggett, Lloyd Baggett, Bobby Brady and Kenneth Griffin. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of Pine Hill Baptist Church, Robert Gainey, Robert Lee, Jerry Lee, Lee Sessions, Hilmon Cook, Leonard Maxwell and Winifred Lee. Mr. Keene died Sunday, June 29 at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. He was born Sept. 16, 1917 in Holmes Couny, Fla. He was a lifelong resident of Grady County, a retired farmer and a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. He served two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps. During World War II he served four years in the United States Army, Company D, 199 Medical Battalion as a medical aid man, surgical technician, cook's helper and a cook in northern France, the Rhineland region and central Europe. He was decorated with the European- African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, one service stripe and one overseas bar. Survivors include a daughter and son-in- law, Linda Keene O'Brien and Gearl H. O'Brien of Cairo; his daughter-in-law, Janice H. Keene of Cairo; three grandchildren, John Walter Keene of Cairo, Ruby Lois Keene Moore (wife of Russell Thomas Moore) of Meigs, Gearl H. "Gary" O'Brien III of Birmingham, Ala.; a great-granddaughter, Savannah Leanne Moore of Meigs; four sisters, Ola Irene Keene Albritton of Milan, Gladys Virginia Keene Ard of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Edyce Mae Keene Reynolds of Climax and Mary Marie Keene Brady Hewitt of Cairo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Kenith Keene and Savannah Elizabeth Scott Keene both of Grady County; his wife, Lois Elmire Baggett Keene (daughter of William Franklin Baggett and Katie May Bishop of Grady County); a son, Johnny Jerome Keene; a grandson, John Nicholas O'Brien; three brothers, Joseph Daniel Keene, William Clyde Keene and Delmar Washington Keene; and sisters, Clara Lou Keene (infant), Sarah Susan Keene Norton and Ethel Elizabeth Keene Collins. -- Heritage Funeral Home This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.7 Kb
