Mr. Sherrer passed away Wednesday, May 5, 1976 at a Whigham nursing home after a lengthy illness. Born June 2, 1884, in Pike County, Ala., son of Sallie Edwards and J. C. Sherrer, he lived most of his life in Meighs. A retired farmer, he was a member of Meigs Baptist Church. He was married to the former Nellie Pollock, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters: Mrs. Sarah King, Dunnellen, Fl.; Mrs. Mildred Andrews, Winter Park, Fla.; Mrs. Elizabeth Eberhard, Seneca, S. C.; Mrs. Mattie B. Smith, Folsom, Calif.; Mrs Bonnie Cason, Columbus; five sons, Joseph D. Sherrer, Cairo; Mercer R. Sherrer, Harry L. Sherrer, Defuniak Springs; Rufus P. Sherrer Jr., Citra, Fl.; Ned Winfred Sherrer, Palm Harbor Fla; a brother Tommy Sherrer, Graceville, Fla.; 34 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
