SHERRER
Funeral services for Rufus Presley Sherrer, age 91, of Meigs,
will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday May 6, 1976 at
Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Cairo by the Revs. Gordon
Hunter and Freeman Allen, with burial in Cairo cemetery.
Mr. Sherrer passed away Wednesday, May 5, 1976 at
a Whigham nursing home after a lengthy illness. 
Born June 2, 1884, in Pike County, Ala., son of Sallie
Edwards and J. C. Sherrer, he lived most of his life in
Meighs. A retired farmer, he was a member of Meigs 
Baptist Church. He was married to the former Nellie
Pollock, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters:
Mrs. Sarah King, Dunnellen, Fl.; Mrs. Mildred Andrews,
Winter Park, Fla.; Mrs. Elizabeth Eberhard, Seneca, S. C.;
Mrs. Mattie B. Smith, Folsom, Calif.; Mrs Bonnie Cason,
Columbus; five sons, Joseph D. Sherrer, Cairo; Mercer
R. Sherrer, Harry L. Sherrer, Defuniak Springs; Rufus P.
Sherrer Jr., Citra, Fl.; Ned Winfred Sherrer, Palm Harbor
Fla; a brother Tommy Sherrer, Graceville, Fla.; 
34 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and one
great great grandchild. The grandsons will be pallbearers.
