Browning, 77 of Tifton died Nov. 22, 2010 at his residence. Born April 8, 1933, to the late Chester and Rosa Sutton Browning, he was r retired from the United States Army and served two tours in Vietnam where he e earned several medals, including the Bronze Star medal, Expert Infantryman B Badge, Three Oversea Bars and Republic of Vietnam Service Medal. He was a past c commander of the American Legion Post 21 and a member of both the Veterans of F Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge. He was involved in promoting the welfare of h his fellow veterans. He was very active in Freemasonry, where he held the following positions, past master of Tifton Lodge #47, F&AM, past master of Tiftarea Lodge #745 F&AM, past high priest of Tifton Chapter #47 Royal Arch Masons, Past Illustrious Master of Tifton Council #58 Royal and Select Masters, past commander of Coastal Plain Commandery Commandery #42, past monarch of Al-Ban Grotto, 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, York Rite College, Hasan Temple, past president Tifton Shrine Club, President of Tifton Scooter Unit, Allied Masonic Degree, Knights York Cross of Honor; Mason of the Year in 1997 and Life Member of Tifton Lodge #47 F&AM.Mr. He also enjoyed history and spending time with his family. He was employed by Short and Paulk and Tifton Discount Building Materials for several years and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown. He helped his son form his own p pool and lawn service. Survivors include his wife, Janet Wilson Browning of Tifton, son, Cooper Browning of Tifton; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Nathan Gabel of Tifton; sisters, Vivian Browning of St. Augustine, FL and Inell Daniels of Valdosta; granddaughter, Caydence Gabel of Tifton; sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Browning of Ormond Beach, FL, and Mary Browning of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry “Buddy” Browning and Heyward Browning. Funeral services were held Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with Dr. Kevin Harris officiating. Interment was in Oakridge Cemetery with Masonic rites and full military rites. Pallbearers were John Henderson, John Henderson, III, Jeremy Hobbs, Neil Clements, Gene Stinson, Lamar Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were members of Tifton Lodge #47 F.&A.M. and American Legion Post #21. Beaumont Funeral Directors with Dr. Kevin Harris officiating. Interment was in Oakridge Cemetery with Masonic rites and full military rites. Pallbearers were John Henderson, John Henderson, III, Jeremy Hobbs, Neil Cl Clements, Gene Stinson, Lamar Jackson.
