She was born at Orange Courthouse, Va., February 7, 1843 and with her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. W. S. Briggs, refugeed to Georgia in 1863. Soon afterwards she married her escort on that trip, Captain Joseph F. (sic) Carson, a young confederate officer. He died in 1888. Mrs. Carson had lived in Tifton for twelve years, and organized the local chapter Daughters of the Confederacy, which was named for her and of which she was president until failing health forced her retirement.
