Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on July 7 in the chapel of Bowen- Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Revs. Bruce Vaughn and the Rev. Mike Gibbs officiating. Interment was in Oakridge Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers. Mr. Fletcher was born on Aug. 31, 1927 in Tift County to the late Julian and Lucy Sumner Fletcher. He lived in Berrien County for over 30 years and was a resident of Tift County most of his life. He was a member of the Alapaha United Methodist Church and the Alapaha Lions Club. Mr. Fletcher served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He graduated from ABAC, Georgia Teacher's College of Statesboro with a B.S. degree in math and science and received his Masters degree from the University of Alabama. He did graduate studies at the University of Tennessee and the University of Texas. Mr. Fletcher was very active in the Alapaha community. In 1997, he was recognized by the Alapaha Lions Club for outstanding community service. He was a retired professor from ABAC and taught at Tift County High School. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fletcher is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Baker Fletcher, and three brothers, Virgil Fletcher, George J. Fletcher and Jack Fletcher. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Ferris Gilli and her husband, Harvey, a step- granddaughter, Susan Hoffman and her husband, Larry, and two great- grandchildren of Atlanta; two sisters, Linda Bruce and her husband, Charles, of Savannah and Pat Slack and her husband, Gene, of Tifton; two sisters in law, Catherine Fletcher of Chula and Betty Fletcher of Tifton; two very special friends, Lincoln and Janice Fletcher of Alapaha; several nieces and nephews.
