 Virginia E. Hunter, 81, of Mechanicsburg died June 22, 2007 at Forest Glen 
Health Campus in Springfield.
 She was born October 9, 1925 in Tift County, the daughter of Mary Etta and 
George Albert Henderson. She received a 4-H scholarship for her food canning 
abilities to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, where she was 
voted "Miss Baldwin" and the "Most Talented Female on Campus" in 1943, and 
graduated in 1944 with an Associate Degree.
 She was then granted a full scholarship to Ohio State University where she 
graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education, VA 
retired following a lengthy and successful career teaching Home Economics at 
Roosevelt Jr. High School, in Springfield, OH, preceded by two years at 
Mechanicsburg High School. She was also employed in 1956 as "Betty Newton" by 
the Ohio Fuel Gas Company (Columbus Gas Company) of Urbana where she visited 
homemaker at their request to demonstrate the use of gas appliances and to give 
cooking demonstrations for clubs and other interested groups.
 Following retirement, she taught reading at Triad Elementary School and worked 
for a number of years as a library clerk at the Mechanicsburg Public Library. 
She was a 60 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Caroline Chapter #39 
and attended Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church.
 Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Racille Griswold Smith 
(James R.) of Urbana and Margaret Ann Griswold Falkenstine Weinbroer (Dave) of 
Lexington, Kentucky; a special step son William (Chomp) C. Hunter of 
Mechanicsburg, and step son Buddy Hunter of Wilmington; grandchildren, Bart 
SMith of Urbana, Stacey Smith of Springfield, Jimmy (Karen) Falkenstine of 
Louisville, Kentucky and Angela Falkenstine of Lexington, Kentucky; great 
grandchildren Brittany Smith, Brook Smith, Taylor Smith and Noah Falkenstine; 
nephew Elvin Wilder of Gainesville, FL; half sister Kathy Salley of Martinez, 
Georgia and many loyal, nurturing friends including Clair Zimmerman of 
Mechanicsburg.
 She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn Wilder; her first 
husband, D. R.A. Griswold; her second husband, Robert J. Hunter; a special 
aunt, Blanche Rowe, of Nashville; half-brother, George Henderson; mentor, 
Samuel "Mr. Pete" Donaldson, president of ABAC; several cousins in Georgia.
 A public celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on July 14 at 
Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church.
 Skillman, McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg was in charge of 
arrangements.
