Walker and Misses Ethyl and Clara attended the funeral of Mr. John Walters at 

Ty Ty Monday.

J. R. Walters, 79, died Monday morning at his home in west Tift County after a 

long illness.



Funeral services were conducted by five o'clock Monday afternoon at the Ty Ty 

Baptist Church by Rev. D. C. Rainey, with interment in the Ty Ty Cemetery 

following.



Mr. Walters was chopping wood a few months ago, when a stick flew up and 

struck his hand, bruising it.  Blood poisoning developed and the contagion 

spread throughout his body.  He had been in a critical condition for several 

weeks.

Deaths and Funerals



Mr. J. R. Walters



Ty Ty, Oct. 12 - Mr. John Randolph Walters, who died here at an early hour 

Monday morning, was buried in the city cemetery (note - this is incorrect - I 

have a picture of his tombstone which is located at Ty Ty Baptist Church 

Cemetery) Monday afternoon.  The funeral was held in the Baptist Church (Ty 

Ty).  The service was conducted by the Rev. E. L. Rainey. 



Mr. Walters was 79 years old and was one of the old and well-known citizens of 

Tift County, and had made his home twenty years.  He moved here from Schley 

County in 1910.  For the last several years he had lived with his 

granddaughter, Mrs. Charley Walker, here.  He had been sick several months, 

and suffered long but patiently and the end came quietly and peacefully.



He leaves one son, Albert S. Walters, of Ty Ty; one brother, the Rev. C. E. 

Walters, of Tifton, one sister, Mrs. Fanny Crutchfield, and scores of 

grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
