Outlaw, last veteran of the Confederate Army living in Toombs County, set up another birthday anniversary this week and enjoyed a celebration organized by relatives and friends held at his home near Lyons and attended by more than 100 well-wishers. The county's last veteran of the late unpleasantness between the states was reported in fair health on his 98th birthday. He was able to attend the picnic-style dinner served outside in the grove. Two of his six children attended. For nearly a decade, only two Confederate veterans have been on the official roll at the office of the Ordinary, the two including the late Uncle Dick Johnson who died last year and was buried near his old home in the Happy Hollow community, and Mr. Outlaw. After War Between the States hostilities had ended, Mr. Outlaw returned to this section, making his home along the Ohoopee river, hunting, trapping and fishing. About five years ago, then 93, he bought a place and settled down but found farm work confining and when manpower shortage set in earnestly, he sold out and moved to near Lyons where he now makes his home.
