Born in Emanuel County, he had resided in Lyons for a number of years. He was captain of the Lyons Fire Department and was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard. He is survived by a son, John Kevin Duckworth of Metter; seven sisters, Mrs. Lavonia Carter of Cordele, Mrs. Betty Ann Minchew of Wilmington, NC, Mrs. Edith Stewart of Roswell, Mrs. Joyce Griffith, Mrs. Sue Williams, Mrs. Beck Morris, and Miss Carol Duckworth, all of Metter; five brothers, Virgil Duckworth of Reidsville, Melvin Duckworth of Swainsboro, Carl Duckworth of Covington, Earl and Randy Duckworth of Metter; also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 4:30PM, from the Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons with Rev. Don Gibbs officiating, assisted by Rev. Andrew Miles. Interment was in Cool Springs Cemetery in Candler County. Active pallbearers: Larry Carter, Emory Duckworth, Bernard Duckworth, Phillip Cliett, Steven Cliett and Danny Coleman. Honorary were members of the Lyons Fire Department and other friends. Trapnell-Jones Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: His parents were John Edward "Ed" Duckworth Sr. and Dolly Mae Foskey Duckworth. He was born 8-16-1941.
