Cook told the sheriff he shot Foskey in self-defense. Therer were several unexplained aspects of the case, however, Sheriff Meadows said. Fosky was killed by a blast from a 12 guage double-barrelled shotgun. The charge struck the slain man in the back between the right shoulder blade and the spine, the sheriff added. Cook has been placed in the Toombs County jail, while the case is being investigated, Sheriff Meadows said. ______________________________________________________________________________ The sheriff told an Advance reporter Wednesday afternoon that he was still investigating the case, but hoped to complete it that (Wednesday) afternoon. _______________________________________________________________________________ Cook told officers that he and Foskey, along with two other young men, had gone to the landing, about a quarter-mile from Cook's home in the lower part of the county, to try out an outboard motor. Cook and Foskey got into an argument and the two other men fled into the swamp and consequently did not witness the shooting. Meadows said Foskey apparently was unarmed . He had a pocket-knife, the sheriff said, but it was in his pocket unopened. A native of Toombs County, Mr. Foskey was the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Foskey of Uvalda. In addition to his parents, survivors are six brothers, Allen, John , and Ezra, all of Uvalda; Denis, Atlanta; Gene, Reidsville; and Lyman, Waycross; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Holland, Macon and Mrs. Alton Phillips, Uvalda. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3:30pm at Harden's Chapel Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Aycock of Uvalda. Burial was in the church cemetery.
