(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net February 26, 2011, 12:23 pm The Savannah Morning News 12-11-1976 Page 9A Crane Operator's Funeral Today Funeral services will be held today for a 57-year-old crane operator for the Georgia Ports Authority who was killed Thursday when the pickup truck he was driving slammed into the back of a stalled tractor-trailer on Brampton Road just outside of Garden City. Police say Thurston R. Tyson, of Rt. 4, Box 12-B, was dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Douglas Washington, 24, of 1726 Barnard St., told police the engine of his truck has just died and he had coasted off to the side of the road when the accident occurred. Tyson, a Lyons native, was a veteran of World War II. He had served in the US Marine Corps and attended the Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Blanche Tyson of Savannah; two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Seay and Mrs. Sandra Wolf, both of Bartow, Fla.; two stepsons, Kenneth and Albert Rowland, both of Savannah; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Barbara Osborne of Savannah; two sisters, Mrs. Alice DeLoach of Savannah and Mrs. Ethel Stanley of Lyons; two brothers, Robert M. Tyson of Lyons and Glenn Tyson of Apopka, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. Funeral will be held today at 11am at the Terry Massey Funeral Home with graveside services at 3pm in the English Eddy Cemetery in Toombs County.
