He was the son of Ewell J. Bryson(1819 - 1880) and Priscilla Kirby (1820 - 1885). They had moved to Georgia from Macon County, North Carolina in the 1840's. Little is know of Welton’s early life but he is known to have been a homebody. This is not hard to understand as he was the one son of nine children. On May 14, 1874, Wellington married Rebecca Elvira Beaver, daughter of Joseph Jefferson Beavers and Sarah Ann Walker. She was born in Towns County, North Carolina, on December 11, 1858. As Ewell and Priscilla were aging Welton and Rebecca lived with them. Their oldest daughter, Sarah Priscilla, was born on June 12,1875, in Towns County. She later married Atticus Theodore Jackson. Their oldest son, William Douglas, was born March 10, 1878, but died of dysentery on July 19, 1879. He is probably buried at Old Union Baptist Church. Their next daughter, Mary Bell, was born July 10, 1880, was known as Mamie. She married James Anderson Lee and they lived in Ardemore, Carter County, Oklahoma. Ewell Bryson died in 1880 and Welton was the administrator of his estate. On May 9, 1883, Welton and Rebecca became the parents of Uel Jefferson. He was named after both of his grandfathers. Sometime in the early part of 1883 Welton and Rebecca moved, along with the Beavers family, to Bartow County, Georgia. On the way Rebecca’s moved passed away and was buried as soon as they arrived in Bartow County. Disaster once again struck the family when on August 10, 1883, little Uel Jefferson died. He is probably buried in the Pine Log Chuch Cemetery, Pine Log, Bartow County, Georgia. On July 23, 1884. Rebecca delived a healthy baby girl named Martha Catherine. He later married James Edwards, son of James and Delilah Ray Edwards. Their next child was Janie Myrtle who was born on March 19, 1887. She married Lewis Freeman Edwards, also son of James and Delilah Ray Edwards. Welton and Rebecca’s third son, John Howard, was born in Bartow County on July 1, 1889. On November 26, 1891, they became the parents of another son, Thomas Watson. Thier last child to be born in Georgia, Juliana Caroline, was born on November 16, 1893. She never married. Early in 1895 Welton and Rebecca decided to move to Texas. They eventually wound up in Joshua, Johnson County, Texas. Unfortunatly their son, John Howard, did not survive the trip and was buried somewhere along the way. One in Texas they became the parents of Rosa Mae who was born May 29, 1896. She married John E. Coody. Their final child, Charles Litzil, was born in Texas on February 27, 1901. The only time Welton and Rebecca came back to Georgia was in about 1902. They came back to Bartow County to visit one of Rebecca’s brothers. It was on this vist that their two daughters, Martha and Janie, met two Edwards brothers, James and Lewis. James and Martha went back to Texas together but Lewis didn’t want to leave his family. Janie said goodbye to her parents and they were not to meet again. They did, however, keep in touch through letters. Welligton Bryson died on January 11, 1913 and is buried at Caddo Cemetery in Joshua, Texas, next to his wife who died on June 19, 1924. ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
