Sumner J. Smith.- We regret to learn that this able and esteemed gentleman died at his residence in Banks county last Saturday. He had been in bad health for sometime. Col. Smith was a man of fine ability and exalted personal worth. He served in the Georgia Legislature about year 1859 from Towns county, and was a leader in the debates of that term. He was ardently devoted to the cause of the Confederacy, and raised a regiment early in the war. His health failed, and he returned home, where he has led a life of close retirement ever since.
