(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net April 8, 2009, 4:06 pm The Soperton News 12-10-1980 Page 15 Tragic Accident Claims Jimmy Nedward Ely Jimmy Nedward Ely, 44, Route 1 Adrian, died from injuries received while working in Athens Friday afternoon, Dec. 5, 1980. A lifetime resident of Treutlen County, Mr. Ely was a son of Henry Lee Ely and the late Mrs. Lillie Mae Johnson Ely. He was employed by Taylor Iron Works in Macon and was a member of the Blackville Church of God. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Wynola Foskey; a son, Mitchell Ely of Adrian; a daughter, Mrs. Sheila Ely of Adrian; father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Ely of Soperton; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Thigpen and Mrs. Ruby Graham, both of Swainsboro; four brothers, James Ely and Leland Ely, both of Soperton,and H. B. Ely and Barnett Ely, both of Swainsboro. Funeral services were conducted in Blackville Church of God at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, December 7, with the Rev. Gordon Statum and the Rev. Glenn Vaughn officiating. Burial was in Bethsaida Baptist Church Cemetery with Sammons Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Carlos Clark, Elton Clark, Gary Dickens, Curtis Wittington, Eddie Mimbs and Milton Thomas. The honorary escorts included Cessum Young, Ben L. Dickens, James Williams, Lamar Williams, Wesley Herndon, Douglas Lord, Earl Clark, Jack Spradley, Wayne Shoemaker, Michael Gay, and Charles Dickens.
