Horton Jr. Samuel A. Horton Jr., 46, died at his home in Hopatcong, New Jersey Thursday, October 4. Mr. Horton was a native of Soperton and had lived in Hopatcong for 3 years. He was the son of Mrs. Lula Powell Horton and the late Samuel A. Horton Sr. He was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints and was a veteran of World War II. He was employed as an ironworker. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Horton; 5 sons, Solomon A. Horton, Oxford, Ga., Lewis Horton, Michael Horton, and David Horton, Hopatcong, and Samuel A. Horton III, Soperton; Miss Vicki Denise Horton, Hopatcong; mother, Mrs. Lula Horton, Soperton; 2 step-daughters, Mrs. Linda Hutchinson and Mrs. Barbara Morris, Soperton; 5 sisters, Mrs. Home Bussell, Mrs. Grady Morris, and Mrs. Albert Morris, Soperton, Miss Myrtice Horton, Atlanta, and Mrs. Carl Lockerby, Putney, Vermont; and 4 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, Oct. 8, with the Rev. J. M. Carter officiating with burial in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Allen Hess, Tunney Morris, H. Holton, Ronald Sammons, Vernon Garnto, and __ Sammons. Additional Comments: Samuel was born 15 Sep 1927. His 1st wife was Mattie Lewis Sammons Horton who is also buried in Harmony.
