MATHIS IS LAID TO REST AT RED BLUFF CHURCH Funeral services for Charles Mathis, 69 of Soperton Route 2, were held Wednesday morning at Red Bluff Church, being conducted by Rev. J. J. Winburn with Sammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mathis was a native of Washington County, but had resided near Soperton for the past ten years. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a well known farmer of his community. Death occurred Saturday at his home after nine months illness. His wife, who was the former Miss Sallie Hall, died in June 1929. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ida Evans, Wray, Ga., Mrs. Nettie Cooper, Soperton, and Mrs. Alice McMillan, Enigma, Ga.; four sons, G. L. Mathis, Lake Alfred, Fla., Estelle Mathis, Palmetto, Fla., and J. B. Mathis and Marvin Mathis, Wray, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Stanford, Tampa, Fla. and Mrs. Bell Riner, Hazlehurst; and two brothers, Ellie Mathis, Tampa, Fla. and Dan Mathis, Sun City, Fla. Pallbearers at funeral service were Jack Perdue, Henry Wheeler, H. O. McLendon, Tommie Gillis, Marvin Powell, and B. M. Lampp. Additional Comments: Charles was born 2 Oct 1873. Both he and his wife are buried in Red Bluff Cemetery in Soperton, Ga.; however. they are listed as Charles Bennett Mathews and Sallie Hall Mathews in lieu of Mathis.
