Mrs. Merritt was a lifetime resident of Treutlen County and was a daughter of the late Richard Foskey and the late Mrs. Frances Sterling Foskey. She was married to the late James A. Merritt Sr. and was a member of the Red Bluff Baptist Church. Survivors include five sons, Hollis Hester of Augusta, Carlos Hester and Richard Hester, both of Dublin, Kenneth Hester of Atlanta, and James A. Merritt Jr. of Soperton; three sisters, Mrs. Elma Connell, Miss Pearl Foskey, and Miss Zelma Foskey, all of Soperton; and 7 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 3:30PM Friday afternoon, April 8, with the Rev. William Wallace officiating. Burial was in Red Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were James L. Curl Jr., Malcolm Hall, Junious Rogers, C. M. Mosley Jr., Wayne Sumner, and Jerry Pope.
