Mr. Powell was a native of Johnson County but had lived most of his life in Treutlen County. He was a son of the late Stephen Powell and the late Mrs. Mattie Copeland Powell. He was retired Chief of Police in Soperton and was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Lee Foskey Powell; three sons, Jerry Powell of Vidalia, Wendell Powell and Joey Powell of Soperton; a daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Deese of Soperton; two brothers, Homer L. Powell of Gray and Luther B. Powell of Uvalda; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held in the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 11 o'clock Monday morning, February 4, with the Rev. Royce Braddy and the Rev. Felton Johnson officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Powell, Charlie Powell, Curtis Powell, Alton Powell, Harold Powell, and Mike Walker. Officers of the Soperton Police Department served as an honorary escort. Additional Comments: Talmadge was born 12-12-1919.
