R. Sammons Services for Rev. Roscoe Luke (R. L.) Sammons, 83 of East Dublin, are scheduled for 3pm Tuesday in the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton. Rev. Tim Hicks and Rev. Hugh Spivey will officiate with burial to follow in Westview Cemetery in Soperton. A native of Soperton, Rev. Sammons lived there until 1972 when he moved to East Dublin. He was the son of the late G. W. (Crockett) Sammons and the late Frances Black Sammons, was active in local churches as a deacon and Sunday school teacher in Soperton and he became an ordained minister with the Emanuel Holiness Organazation in 1969. He founded and pastored the Forest Hills Church of God in East Dublin in 1972 and the Emanuel Holiness Church of God. He was a retired minister and building contractor. He died on Saturday in a Johnson County nursing home. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Morris Sammons; a son, Louie Sammons of East Dublin; five daughters, Shirley Thompson of Vidalia, Jerry Davis of East Dublin, Mirian Mincey of Statesnoro, Merita Smith of Augusta, and Sylvia Spivey of Buena Park, Calif.; five sisters, Flossie Johnson of Mt. Dora, Fla., Grace Johnson and Dot Holton of Atlanta, Jewel Meeks of Sanford, Fla., and Mosie Lee Tedrick of Haines City, Fla.; four brothers, Cooledge Sammons, Ronald Sammons, and Hugh Sammons of Soperton, and Groytt Sammons of Augusta; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Rev. James Harrison, Rev. Clavin Anderson, Rev. Billy Wilson, Rev. L. T. Logue, Chester King, and Johnny Roy Scott will serve as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9pm at Sammons Funeral Home, who has charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: R. L. was born 7 Apr 1912.
