He was the oldest son of Hans Devauld Funderburk and Catherine Laney. John Funderburk was still very young when he and his parents and the rest of his family moved to Camden District (later to become Lancaster County) South Carolina along Polecat Creek in the upper Lynches River area. 1779 to 1782 John Funderburk served in the American Revolutionary War as a private in the South Carolina Militia under the commands of Col. Kershaw, Gen. Marion, Col. Marshall, Gen. Sumter, and Col. Hopkins. About 1783 John Funderburk married Mary Larriman. About 1792 Mary Larriman Funderburk died. Mar. 9, 1795 David Funderburk buys land in Lancaster County, SC. The land was adjacent to Devault Funderburk - John Funderburk. May 29, 1799 John Funderburk of Chesterfield County, SC sells part of tract of land granted to Daniel Funderburk 6 Aug. 1787. About 1800 John Funderburk married Lucy Wilson(?) Jul. 29, 1805 Devault Funderburk of Lancaster District sells to Jeremiah Funderburk - Witness John Funderburk & Able Funderburk. Mar. 27, 1812 John Funderburk of Lancaster County, SC to John Funderburk of Chesterfield County, SC. adjacent to Samuel Funderburk. John and his family moved from Lancaster County, South Carolina to Chesterfield County to Edgefield County back to Lancaster County to Chersterfield County then to Jones County, GA. Dec. 10, 1807 Jones County, Georgia was created. Mar. 16, 1816 John Funderburk of Chesterfield District to David Funderburk 81 acres in Districts of Lancaster and Chesterfield, granted to said David Funderburk 6 Aug. 1787. 1816 Jones County tax record showed John Funderburk living in Georgia Militia District 304 or Capt. Permenter's District in southwest Jones County. Not far from Fort Benjamin Hawkins. (Macon was settled in 1821 and chartered in 1832.) 1820 Federal Census showed John Funderburk living in Jones County, Georgia. 1821 Indian lands were ceded and included Monroe County, GA May 15, 1821 Georgia Act set up the Fourth Land Lottery of 1821 and included Monroe County, Georgia. May 15, 1821 Monroe County, Georgia was created. 1821 Land Lottery Book, listed John Funderburk was living in Jones County, Georgia. Between 1821 and 1829 John Funderburk was granted 202 and 1/2 acres of land in Monroe County, GA, District 6, Lot 118, was near Forsyth. 1825 Indian Lands were ceded and included Troup County, GA. Jun. 9, 1825 Georgia Act established the Fifth Land Lottery of 1827 and included Troup County and Lee County in GA. Jun. 9, 1825 Troup County, Georgia was created. 1827 Land Lottery included Troup County and Lee County in GA. 1827 Land Lottery Book listed John Funderburk living in Monroe County, Georgia. Jun. 2, 1828 John Funderburk purchased 1 acre of land in the town of Forsyth, Monroe County, GA, Lot 88. Jul. 1829 (1828?) black slave found gold near Auraria, Dahlonega, GA. Mar. 25, 1830 John Funderburk sold 202 and 1/2 acres of land in Monroe County, GA, District 6, Lot 118, near Forsyth. Mar. 27, 1830 John Funderburk sold 1 acre of land in the town of Forsyth, Monroe County, GA, Lot 88. May 28, 1830 U.S. Congress passes the Indian Removal Act. 1830 Federal Census, John Funderburk does not appear. Between 1830 and 1833 John Funderburk is granted or purchased 101 and 1/4 acres of land in Troup County, GA, District 6, Lot 3, West Half of the North Section (Northwest quarter) near LaGrange. (LaGrange was incorporated in 1828.) Dec, 21, 1830 Georgia Act set up the Sixth (Cherokee) Land Lottery of 1832 and included Floyd and Cherokee Counties in Georgia. Dec. 21, 1830 Original Cherokee County created from Indian lands and included Floyd County, Georgia. 1832 Land Lottery included Floyd County, Georgia. Dec. 3, 1832 Floyd County, GA was created from the original Cherokee County. Jan. 14, 1833 John Funderburk living in Troup County, GA files Revolutionary War Pension Application. Jun. 24, 1833 John Funderburk in Troup County, GA amends Revolutionary War Pension Application. Feb. 10, 1834 John Funderburk sold 101 and 1/4 acres of land in Troup County, GA, District 6, Lot 3, West half of North Section (Northwest quarter). This was near LaGrange. Aug. 24, 1835 John Funderburk granted land in Lee County, GA, District 29, Lot 16. Dec. 30, 1835 Cherokee Indian Council Approves the New Echota Treaty. May 23, 1836 The New Echota Treaty became Law. This treaty cedes Indian land and includes Floyd County, GA. Jan. 12, 1837 John Funderburk purchased 80 acres of land in Floyd County, GA, District 23, Section 3, South half of Lot 160. This was near Rome, GA (Rome, GA was founded in 1835.) May 23, 1838 is deadline for voluntary Cherokee Indian removal. May 26, 1838 Roundup of Cherokee Indians begins. This continues from 1838 into 1839. 1840 Federal census, the only John Funderburk listed was in Walton County, GA. May 1, 1845 John Funderburk purchased 80 acres of land in Floyd County, GA, District 23, Section 3, North half of lot 162. This was near Rome, GA.
