SHERRARD HODGES, FORMERLY OF RANDOLPH COUNTY, CELEBRATED HIS ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY IN TEXAS LAST YEAR Mr. R.T. Hodges handed us some days ago a copy of the Dallas, Texas Semi- Weekly News, published some months ago, containing an account of the celebration of the one hundredth annivesary of the birth of his father, Mr. Sherrard Hodges. The senior Mr. Hodges formerly lived in Randolph County but now resides near Cooledge, Texas. We reproduce the article as a matter of interest to the Randolph friends of the venerable old gentleman: Colledge, Texas, Aug. 5th - - - Quite a number of Masons with their families yesterday repaired to the home of G.W. Hodges near this place and partook of an excellent dinner. The occasion was the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the host's father, "Uncle" Sherrard Hodges, whose picture is given here. He was born in Troup County, Georgia on August 4, 1808 and was married to Miss Mary Armour in 1835; he moved to Randolph County, Alabama in 1837, where he resided until 1892, when he came to Texas. His wife died in 1896 since which time he has lived with his son, G.W. Hodges. He was made a Mason in 1866 by Putman Lodge No. 212 at Louina, Ala., and is a charter member of the Armour Lodge No. 780 of this place and is perhaps the oldest living Mason in Texas. He is remarkably active for one of his years and takes pleasure in relating the adventures of his early life. He has good health and bids fair to be present at a few more annual celebrations of the kind yet."
