June 20, 1894
West Point's Public School
West Point, Ga., June 19--(Special)--The commencement exercises of the public 
schools here last week were unusually interesting.  Dr. O G Thomas, of 
Atlanta, preached the commencement sermon.  On Wednesday night addresses were 
delivered by Mr. A. Heyman of the West Point bar, Messrs. Frank Harwell, 
Alfred Griggs, J T Dixon, H W Hodge.  Others who took part were:
Misses Freeman and Cooper, Dr. Joe Horsely, Jr. and Mr. George Harris, Miss 
Annie Horsley, Miss Harris, Miss Willis Little, Miss Horsley, Mr. Harry Smith, 
Miss Julia Callaway, Miss Sallie Fannie Burdette, Mr. Damon Lanier. 

The closing exercises were held Thursday night at the opera house.  Those who 
took part were, Misses Burdette and Harris, Sallie Fannie Johnson, Kate 
Cooper, Ida and Maud Brown, Laura Wallace, Lillian Croft, Etha Hicks, Julia 
Turner, Ida Jackson, Maud Johnson, Berta Summers, Melton, Shealey, Davidson 
and Winston, Annie Cotton, Jimmie Erle Jackson. 

Miss Sallie Fannie Johnson was the salutatorian and Miss Emma Adams the 
valedictorian.
