B. Rowland, just beyond the river, bought liquor in LaGrange and after reaching home, became involved in a row, which culminated in the death of Howell. How the row began is not exactly known, but strong drink was it's inspiration. DeLaney stabbed Howell three times, once in the left shoulder, once under the left arm, cutting the artery, and in the right breast. DeLaney came to town Friday morning and gave himself up to the law. A coroner's inquest was held over the body of the victim, and DeLaney was sent to jail to await investigation. On Monday morning, DeLaney was brought before Judge Beall of the County Court, where it was proven that the killing was in self defense and DeLaney was turned loose.
