Your sympathy and assistance has been a source of much comfort to us in this dark hour. R. P. PHELPS and Family [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 15 Mar 1911 , p.1] ---------------------------- [JOHN] GORDON PHELPS ---------------------------- On March 4th, at Amarillo, Texas, after three days’ illness of pneumonia, [John] Gordon PHELPS passed on to the Eternal Heavenly Home. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. PHELPS of Roanoke, Ala., and was born in Troup county, Ga., Feb 14th, 1886, but spent most of his life in Alabama until two years ago, when he went out to Oklahoma to take a position with the Rock Island Railroad. Just twenty-five years of age, with a bright, happy disposition and a cheerful word for every body, and with a promising future, his sudden death was one of those mysteries that we cannot fathom, but the comfort of our Heavenly Father enables us to bear all of our deepest grief, and His arms sustains us through every sorrow. “It is sad that one we cherish should be taken from our home, but the joys that do not perish live in memory alone.” “All the years we’ve spent together, all the happy golden hours, shall be cheerished [sic] in remembrance, fragrant sweets from memory’s flowers.” One Who Love Him.
