Mrs. Shackelford died After Brief Illness at Athens

Athens, Ga. March 14 (Special) Mrs. Thomas J. Shackelford married only last 
year, died at her home here tonight after a brief illness.  She was formerly 
Miss Sujette Lanier, of West Point, and a sister of Mrs. E. C. Branson, of this 
place.

She was subjected to an operation this afternoon, came from under the 
anesthetic in perfectly normal condition for the circumstances apparently and 
then died instantly.

Mrs. Shackelford, West Point

West Point, Ga., (Special) The remains of Mrs. Thomas J. Shackelford, whose 
death occurred last night in Athens, arrived here this evening at 7:30 
o'clock.  The funeral will take place some time tomorrow.  Definite 
arrangements have not been announced.  Mrs. Shackelford belonged to one of the 
first families in Georgia.  Before her marriage she was Miss Sue Jett Lanier, 
the youngest daughter of E. F. Lanier, one of the most prominent citzens of 
West Point.  As a young lady, she was very popular here, and leaves hosts of 
friends all over the state who will mourn her loss.

Additional Comments:
This is Sujette Lanier, b. 28 June 1882 to Elijah Frank Lanier and Susan 
Elizabeth (Cherry) Lanier.  She married Thomas J. Shackelford on 12 December 
1912 in West Point, Troup Co., Georgia.

Buried at Pinewood Cemetery in West Point, Troup Co., Georgia.


Her sister, Mrs. E. C. Branson is Charlotte "Lottie" Lanier, wife of Eugene C. 
Branson.
