Tomme This community was shocked on last Saturday evening by the sad intelligence of the sudden death of Captain R.S. Tomme, which occurred about half past even o'clock p.m. Captain T. left his store about half past four o'clock that evening, not complaining in the least, and in fine and jovial spirits. On arriving at his residence, he started to the dining-room for his supper, when on being informed it was not quite ready, he went into his room and sat down on a trunk, where he expired, with an attack of apoplexy. Captain Tomme was about 37 years old. He was a gallant Confederate soldier - lost an arm at the battle of Chancellorsville. He leaves an interesting family to mourn his loss, a wife and seven children, the oldest 17 years of age and the youngest, two months - five boys and two girls. He was buried on Sunday afternoon with Masonic honors, attended by a large concourse of citzens. - LaGrange Reporter Additional Comments: Transcriber's note: I'm not related to or researching the Tomme family.
