T. Woodyard On Friday night, March 10th , at ten o’clock, death entered the home of Judge H. T. Woodyard and snatched from his loving heart his life companion, Mrs. Annie Roby Woodyard. The funeral was held Sunday evening at 2 o’clock , at the First Baptist church, of which church she was a devout member, conducted by her pastor, Dr. Spencer Tunnell, after which the body was carried to West Point , where it was interred in Pineview Cemetery. Hunter & Owen, funeral directors. Following is a list of pallbearers: Henry Reeves, Ely R. Callaway, W. A. Holmes, R. O. Pharr, all of LaGrange, and Mark McCulloh and Clarence Hudmon, both of West Point. Few funerals in LaGrange have been more largely attended than was the funeral of Mrs. Woodyard.; and the beautiful floral offerings, which were banked in artistic profusion around the altar and in the windows, were silent mementoes of the love and esteem in which this noble Christian woman was held by her friends. The sweet songs by the choir, and words of the preacher were most appropriate to the occasion, and comforting to the bereaved ones. Mrs. Woodyard was born at Columbus, Ga., January 8, 1864. Her parents were Dr. and Mrs. Z. D. Roby. Her father was a noted Baptist preacher, pastering some of the best churches in Alabama. Having been brought up in a Christian home, the deceased joined the church when she was ten years old and was never happier than when she was engaged in work for her Lord and Master. She was an active member of Circle 2 of the Women’s Missionary Society of the First Baptist church, giving of her time and talent to promote the best interest of her church. On December 20, 1882, she was married to Mr. H. T. Woodyard, and to them were born three children, two daughters and one son, Mrs. J. W. Hudmon, of West Point; Mrs. Hardy Clark, of this city; and Mr. H. T. Woodyard, Jr., of LaFayette, Ga., all of whom survive her. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Z. D. Roby, of Opelika, Ala; one sister, Mrs. Joe Renfro, of Opelika; one brother, Mr. John A. Roby, of Tuscaloosa, Ala; and two nephews, Mr. Roby Harrington, of Helena, Arkansas, and Wilson Roby of N. C. After Judge Woodyard was elected to the office of Ordinary of Troup county in 1904, he moved his family to LaGrange, coming to this city in January, 1905. As soon as Mrs. Woodyard came to LaGrange, she became identified at once with the religious and social activities of the city, and was a potent factor in everything that would promote the educational, social and religious interest of the community, modest and unassuming in all of her work. Mrs. Woodyard will be greatly missed by all her friends, and her place will be hard to fill. The many friends of the bereaved husband and children sympathize with them in this hour of their sorrow. ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
