Not proven. I have been wanting to pinpoint the location of Ft. Telfair ever since I found out about it. The U.S. Army Library did not know, or the person that I made contact w/ failed to look it up. I am so glad to find out that the location of Ft. Telfair is Taversville. (Note that there is a "Taver" on this pay-roll. I would like to learn all that I can of my ancestors participation in the war of 1812. My main Quest is to find John and Minton's parents. There is a suspicion their parents names may have been John or Joseph Dean and Elizabeth Minton. These pioneers migrated down to Georgia from South Carolina. Most probably Old District 96. Several of the names on this pay-roll probably also came from there. My ancestor John was alleged to have been born @ sea 1784. He was married to Nancy Mathis alleged to have been the daughter of Thomas Mathis Revolutionary Patriot. He had another brother by the name of Jarrett Dean (not on this pay-roll, but believed to have served in the militia) alleged to have been married to Nancy's sister Priscilla Mathis. Note: Sometimes the names Mathis and Mathews were used inter-changably in olden times. Also a John Mathews was listed in the Lowndes County Alabama Census as being the next door neighbor of my John Dean. I just noticed tonight that a J. Mathews was also on this pay-roll. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Gen. Blackshears Memoir from the U.S. Army Military History Institute . From the National Archives I received muster cards etc. of one John Dean ( I believe the same as my G-G- Grandfather.) ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
