Agreeable to a previous notice, a portion of the Whig party convened this day, for the purpose of nominating suitable Delegates to meet the Bibb delegation, and nominate a candidate to represent the District composed of the counties of Bibb and Twiggs, in the next State Senate, and also to appoint delegates to the Convention at Milledgeville, on the 1st Monday in July next for the purpose of nominating a candidate for Governor. On motionof Dr. Dupree, Robt. Raiford, Esq. was called to the Chair, and J J Boynton was requested to act as Secretary. On motion, it was, Resolved, That three Delegates from each District in the county be appointed to meet the Bibb delegation for the purpose of nominating a candidate for the Senate, the following named individuals were then appointed. Tarversville District, James Bryan, Robt. R. Slappy and Calvin Bryan; Burn’s District, A. B. Horn, James M Ware, and Daniel M Vaughn; 23d dist., Hayden Hughes, G. B. Brazilla and John Allen; 26th dist, Dr. A A Cullens, Henry Radford, and J J Boynton Ware’s dist, D. H. Coombs, J. H. Denson; Marion dist, Dr. Ira E Dupree, John Glover and James Averitt; Bluff dist, Pleasant Gentry, Allen Bullard and Jesse Hearn; Pearson’s dist, Wm P Brooks, J J Bull and J A Young; Smith’s dist, S. Vann, John Ashley and R. S. Bostwick; McDanil’s dist, Stephen Jones, Edmond Swinney and Thomas Moore. On motion, it was unanimously Resolved, That Hardy Durham, Robt. Radford and Heydan Hughs Esqrs, be appointed delegates to the Milledgeville July Convention, to represent the county of Twiggs, to confirm the nomination of GEORGE W CRAWFORD for Governor, already made by the people, for the faithful and economical discharge of his duties as Governor, and to represent the county in other business, if any should come before them. On motion, it was Resolved That Dr. Ira E Dupree, be appointed Corresponding Secretary, to correspond with the Bibb delegation, and settle upon a time and place of meeting, and to notify the delegates appointed. Resolved, That the Editors of the Messenger at Macon, be requested to publish the proceedings of this meeting.
