Good Lady Passes Away

Last Thursday at 1:30 o'clock pm Mrs. Mattie Carswell, wife of the late, Dr.
B.S. Carswell, died at her home in our city after an illness of several weeks. 
She was Miss Mattie Harrell before her marriage to Dr. Carswell who proceeded
her 19 years ago.  She did not have any children of her own, but raised a family
of step-children, and was an ideal step-mother and grandmother to the children
who lived her as their own mother. She was a consistent member of the Baptist
church, since girlhood, and was one of its most loyal and faithful members. 
Since the death of her husband, who was a steward of the Methodist church, she
has always furnished the elements of sacrement for this church, she having made
this request.  She was indeed a ministering angel to the sick of the town and
community, ever ready to go to the bedside of the sick and dying and there to
administer to their wants. She is survived by a number of step-grandchildren,
Miss Willie Harrell, a neice, several cousins and a host of friends who mourn
her loss.  The funeral services were conducted from her late residence Friday
afternoon by Rev. J.W. Reese and her body was interred in the city cemetery.
