Carter, retired farmer of Cochran, Route 4, died in a local hospital early Monday after an illness of several months. Carter was born in Twiggs County, the son of William Carter and Mrs. Donna Chance Carter, and had lived near Cochran all of his life. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Walter Williams, Macon; three sons, Horace Carter, Honolulu; James Carter, Vandera, Texas; William J. Carter, Toccoa; a sister, Mrs. Charles Rohr, Washington, DC; six brothers, Dudley, Danville; Colothoree Carter, Jeffersonville; Peru Carter, Macon; Zerunia Carter; Macon; Moscus Carter, Dublin. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Hart's Mortuary. From The Macon Telegraph 8-5-1948 John B. Carter Funeral services for John B. Carter, retired farmer of Cochran Route 4, who died in a local hospital Monday, will be held in Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Danville at 11AM Thursday. The Rev. J. E. Townsend will officiate and burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery. Pallbearers will be Homer Chance, Julian Chance, Rufus Chance, Joseph Chance, Silas Chance, and William Grimsley. Carter was born in Twiggs County, son of William Carter and Mrs. Donna Chance Carter, and had lived near Cochran all of his life. Hart's Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
