His going away was like his life, sweet and peaceful (missing words) ing cements and establishes good will between father and children so much as confident communications of concernments and affairs. He leaves behind him six children and may God be merciful to them in their loneliness and bring them to comfort and consolation. He was an affectionate father, one ready to advise, to console, to sympathize, ready to share with his children their joys and their sorrows and to bear with them their burdens. He was a Confederate Veteran having fought in the late Civil War. He received a wound from which he suffered until his death. He was a true patriot willing at any time to give his life for his country. We miss his willing and sacrificial spirit of service. His faith was steadfast and true and eavh year drew him nearer to the God he served and the Christ he loved. He was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Although in very bad health for a long time, his kindness, patience, and fortitude never failed and he always had a cheerful word for everyone. Our home has lost his presence in body but his spirit still inspires us to more unselfish service. "Death is Swallowed up in Victory, O, Death, where is thy sting? O Grave, where is thy victory. Although we feel most keenly our loss and our hearts still ache and long for our departed father, we know that our Heavenly Father sometimes tries us by afflictions and washes the eyes of his earthly children with tears that they may read aright his providence. We know that there is a blessing with every sorrow and we must bow in humble submission to the will of one who doeth all things well. For "On every life some rain must fall; Some days must be dark and dreary". "Yet again we hope to meet him, When the days of life have fled, And in Heaven with joy to greet him Where no farewell tears are shed" "His Baby" Mrs. W.H. Brooks.
