Ham - Danville - Virginia N. Ham, 80,of Highway 80, died Thursday, July 28, 2005 in Macon. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2005 in the Chapel of Reece Funeral Home in Jeffesonville. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Danville. Rev. Bob Hamilton and Rev. Jeff Slaughter will officiate. Mrs. Ham was born in Macon on January 15, 1925 the daughter of the late J. Lee Newby,Sr. and the late Nettie Pauline Jenkins Newby. She was the widow of the late James Franklin Ham. Mrs. Ham was a graduate of the Georgia Women's College and taught math and science in the Twiggs County School System and at Twiggs Academy for over forty years and also served as Headmaster at Twiggs Academy for several years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she taught the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class and was very involved in the Women's Missionary Union work. She was loved by many people. Survivors include her daughters, Donna Ham and Jan Green, son-in-law Tim Green; granddaughters, Sophie and Audrey Green, both of Macon; two aunts, Rose Ware of Macon and Betty Ruth Lee of Ivey; sister Bobbie Payne of Savannah; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Scottie McGuffin of Warner Robins; sister-in-law Tinie Newby of Jeffersonville; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Reece Funeral Home in Jeffersonville has charge of arrangements.
