Jeffersonville, Georgia, Friday, March 24, 1933, $1.50 Per Year; Front Page Beloved Woman Enters Beyond Miss Carrie McCallum Passed Away Monday Afternoon. Funeral Conducted Wednesday by Rev. S. B. Wingfield. Miss Carrie McCallum, a muchly beloved woman, of Jeffersonville, died at her home here Monday afternoon about five o’clock. Miss McCallum suffered a heart attack last October and had been in feeble health since then. Although of an unpretentious and retiring nature she was a faithful worker in the Baptist church, Missionary society and among the young people. It can truly be said of “Miss Carrie” that, “None knew her but to love her.” Her kind deeds made for her many friends among both the white and colored people.” Funeral services were conducted at three o’clock Wednesday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. S. B. Wingfield who brought a message of love and comfort in this sad hour. A choir of eight voices sang appropriate selections. At the conclusion of the services in the local cemetery colored friends of the deceased sang, “Meet me There on the Golden Shore.” Many beautiful flowers testified to the love and esteem in which this good woman was held. Surviving is her sister, Mrs. W. W. Wood, with whom she made her home. The two sisters were never apart except for short periods. Other survivors are a brother, J. A. McCallum, a step-father, Linton Hatcher, ten nieces and nephews including Linton Wood, and other relatives. Near relatives served as pall bearers and were Eilliot, Ware and Hugh McCallum, Jackson Hatcher, C. B. Wall, P. M. Jackson and Misses Hazel Hatcher and Kathryn McCallum. R. A’s of the Baptist church served as honorary pall bearers. Among the close relatives from a distance attending the services were: Elliott McCallum, Asheville, N. C. Mr. And Mrs. Jim Chambers, Mr. And Mrs. W. T. Chappell, Jr. and Mrs. Willard Adams from Macon; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ware, Dudley; Mr. And Mrs. John Calhoun and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Hammock from Byron; Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Jackson and Mrs. Ben Jackson from Toombsboro; and Mrs. Jessie Tinsley from Byron.
