                        Jerome Newby Jr.

JEFFERSONVILLE---Jerome Lee Newby Jr., a retired Robins Air Force Base civil 
service employee, died Monday in a local hospital after an extended illness. He 
was 57.
Services will be held at 3PM Wednesday in Mount Zion Baptist Church in Twiggs 
County. Burial will be in the Lee Cemetery in Twiggs County. The Rev. Luke 
Moncrief will officiate.
A Bibb County native, Mr. Newby lived in Twiggs County most of his life. He was 
a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He was a World War II Army Air Corps 
veteran and a chief master sergeant in the US Air Force Reserves.
Mr. Newby was also a member of the Federal Retirement Organization and past 
president of the Economic Planning Corp. in Twiggs County.
Survivors include his wife, Tinie Johnson Newby of Jeffersonville; two sons, 
John A. Newby of Jeffersonville and Jessie I. Newby of Danville; a daughter, 
Jane N. Fountain of Jeffersonville; three sisters, Virginia N. Ham of Danville, 
Barbara H. Payne of Savannah, and Janet N. McGuffin of Warner Robins; and four 
grandchildren.
The family may be contacted at the Newby residence, Route 1, Jeffersonville.
Allgood Memorial Chapel in Jeffersonville has charge of arrangements.


Additional Comments:
Jerome Lee "Sonny" Newby was born 2-10-1929 and died 4-7-1986 (GA DC#012804) 
and is buried in the Lee Cemetery in Twiggs County. His parents, Jerome Lee 
Newby Sr. and Nettie Pauline Jenkins Newby, are also buried there.
