Newby JEFFERSONVILLE---Nettie Pauline Newby, an 84-year-old homemaker, of Route 1, died Thursday in a local nursing home after an extended illness. Services will be held at 3PM Saturday in Mount Zion Baptist Church in Twiggs County. Burial will be in Lee Cemetery in Twiggs County. The Rev. Jeffery Slaughter will officiate. Mrs. Newby, a native of Tampa, Fla., lived in Twiggs County for the past 24 years. She was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Ham of Danville, Barbara Payne of Savannah and Janet MCGuffin of Warner Robins; a son, Jerome Lee Newby Jr. of Jeffersonville; a sister, Julia Johnson of Atlanta, Texas (sic) ; two half- sisters, Betty Lee of Ivey and Rose Ware of Macon; a brother, a brother, W. E. Jenkins Jr. of Dearing; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family may be contacted at the residence of Jerome Lee Newby Jr., Route 1, Jeffersonville. Allgood Memorial Chapel in Jeffersonville has charge of arrangements. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. Additional Comments: Nettie Pauline (maiden name Jenkins) Newby was born 1-7-1902 and died 4-3-1986 (GA DC #011867) and is buried in Lee Cemetery in Twiggs County, Georgia. Her husband, Jerome Lee Newby Sr., is also buried there.
