He never married. His parents, Jessie Ivey "Jess" Newby and Dora "Dode" Estella Lee Newby, are also buried there. From The Macon Telegraph 6-21-1937 Page 10 Rites for Newby Scheduled Today Funeral for Rabies Victim Will Be at Mount Zion Church Funeral services for Ben Hill Newby, Pinehurst farm overseer, will be held at 10AM today in the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Twiggs County, the Rev. J. E. Townsend officiating. Burial will be in the Lee Cemetery. Mr. Newby, a native of Jeffersonville, died in a local hospital Saturday morning, a victim of rabies, which he developed last week, having been bitten by a mad dog May 26. Symptoms of the disease appeared Wednesday and when Mr. Newby was brought here, physicians applied every known scientific method to save his life. Dr. J. F. Sellers, head of the division of laboratories for the state department of public health, said only 16 of 25,000 persons who have taken rabies treatment during the last 15 years have died. A special study is being made of Mr. Newby's case. Mr. Newby is survived by his parents, four brothers, three sisters, and a number of nieces and nephews.
