Jerome Lee Newby Sr. was born 11-4-1893 and died 1-2-1964 (GA DC# 000144) and is
buried in the Lee Cemetery in Twiggs County. His wife, Nettie Pauline Jenkins
Newby as well as his parents, Jesse Ivey "Jess" Newby and Dora "Dode" Estella
Lee Newby, are also buried there.

 J. L. Newby Sr. Dies In Hospital

Jerome Lee Newby Sr., 70, of Rte. 1, Jeffersonville, died in a local hospital at
3PM yesterday.
Mr. Newby was born in Twiggs County, the son of Jessie and Mrs. Dora Lee Newby
and has lived there most of his life except for 17 years in Texas. He was a
member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the Masonic Cool Springs Lodge, the
Shrine Mosley Temple of Fort Worth, and a veteran of World War I and II.
Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Nettie Pauline Jenkins, Jeffersonville;
a son, Jerome Lee Newby Jr., Jeffersonville; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Ham,
Danville, Mrs. Barbara Payne, Port Wentworth, and Mrs. Jeannette McGuffin,
Bangor, Maine; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Herbert Newby, Macon; three sisters,
Mrs. Alma Blount, Macon, Mrs. Margaret Faulk, Jeffersonville, and Mrs. Aline
Hodges, Rutledge, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hart's Mortuary.
