Born in Twiggs County, he was the son of the late James Samuel and Nancy Howell Padgett. He lived in Macon for the past 35 years and was a retired employee of the Macon Iron & Paper Stock Co. He was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of Oak Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors: wife, Lucy Webb Padgett of Macon; stepchildren, Jack and Jerry Webb, both of Macon, Vernice Roberts of Las Vegas, Nev., and Wydine Cone of Fitzgerald; sisters, Anne Bridges and Lucile Dykes, both of Cochran; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great- grandchildren. Services: 2pm today in Lucy Chapel Methodist Church, Twiggs County. Burial: the church cemetery. The Rev. Steve Cannon will officiate. Visitation: The family may be contacted at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Ray O'Neal, 905 Crest Drive, Cochran. Fisher Funeral Home in Cochran has charge of arrangements.
