Phillips, 54, well-known Twiggs County farmer, died at his home here today. He suffered a stroke about five years ago and had been in declining health since. Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday at Cool Springs Primitive Baptist Church. Phillips lived in the Cool Springs community most of his life, moving to Jeffersonville when illness forced his retirement from active farming. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Hattie Bell Pope; son, Clarence Phillips; and granddaughter, Gwendolyn Phillips, all of Jeffersonville; four brothers, John, Jim, Gene, and Jule Phillips, all of the Cool Springs community; and three sisters, Mrs. Monroe Lucas, Mrs. William Howell, and Mrs. Bob Churchwell, all of the Cool Springs community.
