A lifelong resident of Twiggs County, he was the son of the late John C. and Birdie Lee Rozier Phillips. He was superintendent of the Twiggs County Road Department and was a member of Cool Springs Primitive Baptist Church in Twiggs County and the Twiggs County Farm Bureau. He was a World War II Army veteran. Survivors: wife, Mozelle L. Phillips of Danville; stepchildren, Patricia Kitchens, Wallace Newby and Frank Newby, all of Macon, and Rhonda Hamrick, Bradley Newby, and Kenny Newby, all of Jeffersonville; brothers and sisters, Marie Phillips, Jewell Brown, Franklin Phillips, Johnny Phillips, and B. W. Phillips, all of Danville; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Services: 3pm Saturday in Cool Springs Primitive Baptist Church, Twiggs County. Burial: the church cemetery. Elder Sammy Bryant and Elder Franklin Bryant will officiate. Visitation: 7 until 9 tonight in Fisher Funeral Home, Cochran and the family may be contacted at the residence.
