The Rev. D. M. Smith conducted the services. Mr. Sauls had been in ill health for the past 13 years and the fact that he ended his own life is thought to have come about because of despondency. While out of the house for a short while Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. Sauls heard a gun shot and upon returning, she found her husband in a dying condition from a bullet wound in his head. A coroner's jury was summoned and after viewing the surroundings in the Sauls home, a verdict of suicide was rendered, according to Sheriff Earl Hamrick. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Lucy Floyd; one son, Herschel Sauls Jr.; his mother, Mrs. Katie Sauls; three sisters, Mrs. G. W. Thompson, Mrs. Jim Sauls, and Mrs. George Gordon, all of Twiggs County. Additional Comments: Herschel was born 3 Oct 1905 to John D. Sauls and Katie Katura Floyd Sauls.
