H. LaPrade Rev. Branch was born at Tallahassee, Fla. His father was a minister, Rev. James Orson Branch, D.D. His Mother, Mrs. Caroline Lee Hentz Branch. He was an honor graduate of Emory College in 1883. While a student at Oxford he was licensed to preach at the age of 21 in Dec. 1883. Rev. Branch served 19 years in the South Ga. Conference. In the fall of 1902, for health reasons, he was transferred to the North Ga. Conference. In Nov. 1916 after 33 years in the pastorate, much of the time in frail health, he superannuated. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Zillah Virginia Johnson of Oglethrope Co., Ga. and to this union was born three sons, Charles Hentz, Jr., Garnett Orson and James Orson. After the death of his first wife he married her younger sister, Miss Elizabeth Harriet Johnson. To this union was born two children, Robert Marcellus, and Mary Zillah, now Mrs. Charles Arnold. His wife, daughter and one grandson, Charles Arnold, Jr. survive him but Mrs. Branch who was an invalid, lingered 4 months after his death and died, Nov. 20, 1933.
