William Washington Brinsfield was born at Pinson Station, Floyd County, Georgia, August 14, 1848. He was the son of George Lindsey and Mary Martin Brinsfield. Born of godly parents. Reared on a farm, his first educational opportunities were limited to the rural schools of that distant day. Feeling the need of better training for his expected life work of the ministry, he entered Vanderbilt University. Later, he went to Cumberland University. In 1873 he was married to Miss Mattie Mitchell. They were married for fifty years before her death. One son, Rev. J.W. Brinsfield, became his Conference comrade and walked in the way his father trod. The others have taken their places in the Church so dear to him. His license dates back to 1886 when at eighteen he was formally commissioned at Rush Chapel, Floyd County, Ga. and into full connection in 1874. In 1873 he was ordained deacon and two years later was ordained elder. When he was seventy years old he was called from retirement ranks to untertake the task and to enter into the privilege of providing homes for unhoused superannuates. To this work he gave nine years. During this period he secured to the Church twenty homes with an approx. valuation of $100,000. This work was accomplished with no cost to the Church except his modest salary. By: A.M.
