White county, in the mountains of North Ga., could not be beat for its hardships, unless it was nearer the Mason Dixon line. He passed away in Oxford, Ga. School facilities were meager in his early age in those mountain coves and everywhere during years cursed by civil strife and hateful days of reconstruction. On Sept. 13, 1883 he happily married Ginnervra Gholson who was his real helpmate all along and into his hour of death. With a salary never large he managed to stay out of debt, educated his children and met every financial obligation. Three children live to bless his name, Claude and Bill Cantrell of Florida and Mrs. Mary Downs of Atlanta, Ga. Licensed to preach April 17, 1880. He went to heaven from Oxford, Ga. and his body was buried in the cemetery of his college town beside many other Methodist preachers.
